Choosing the perfect swimsuit can sometimes be tricky, but with some wise advice, you can find one that enhances your features and ensures a stylish and comfortable summer. Here are five tips to guide you in your quest for the ideal swimsuit.
Before embarking on the swimsuit hunt, take the time to know your body shape. Each body is unique, and different swimsuit styles can accentuate different forms. Identify your strengths and choose a swimsuit that highlights them while concealing areas you prefer to camouflage.
The top of your swimsuit provides optimal support. Women with generous busts should opt for models with wider straps and greater cup coverage. Here at June Swimwear, we recommend the Bonnie, perfect for ample busts. You can find The Bonnie directly on our website, offering a choice of four colors: Black Eye, Eastcoast, Harbor, and Olivier. Meanwhile, those with smaller busts can experiment with adjustable tops that provide good support without leaving a gap between the swimsuit and the chest. The Vanessa top is ideal for smaller busts as it is adjustable. The Vanessa comes in three colors: Black Eye, Matcha, and Olivier.
The bottom of the swimsuit significantly impacts your overall look. High cuts elongate the legs, high waists flatter the silhouette, and cheeky styles add a touch of boldness. For example, the Yvonne bikini bottom, with medium coverage, is available in several colors. Try different styles to find the one that best suits your style and comfort.
Fabric quality is essential for a durable and comfortable swimsuit. Look for fabrics resistant to chlorine and UV rays to ensure a long life for your swimsuit while protecting it from the harmful effects of the sun and chlorinated water. We also offer swimsuits with lining and, for some, with eco-friendly fabrics, all available at June Swimwear.
Think about your planned activities when choosing your swimsuit. If you're planning tanning sessions, a two-piece bikini might be ideal. For sports activities or beach games, opt for a one-piece swimsuit offering better support. You can find directly on our website a "Surf Approved" section that gathers all swimsuits designed for surfing and other sports activities. We also have a section with swimsuits specially designed for the pool, including our Just Swim collection. The Zara swimsuit is perfect for doing as many laps as you want while remaining comfortable in your skin. The Zara is available in two colors: Emerald and Sirius.
By following these tips, you will be better equipped to find the perfect swimsuit that enhances your silhouette while ensuring comfort and confidence on sunny days. Take the time to explore different options and choose the swimsuit that best reflects your personal style.

1. Supports the Local Economy
The first reason to support local businesses is their impact on your region's economy. When you purchase products or use services provided by local businesses, you contribute to stimulating the economic growth of your community. Local businesses often serve as key drivers of employment, creating opportunities for local residents and spurring investments in the area.
2. Better Quality
Local businesses often have a stronger commitment to the quality of their products or services. As local customers, you have more direct access to the artisans and entrepreneurs behind these businesses, which means you can receive more personalized service and higher-quality products. At June Swimwear, product quality and durability are our priorities. By working locally, we can ensure top-notch products, crafted with care and unparalleled attention to detail.
3. Reduces Environmental Footprint

Moreover, local businesses often employ more sustainable and environmentally-friendly production practices. By choosing local products, you participate in pollution reduction and environmental preservation. Opting for local is opting for a sustainable future.
4. Promotes Ethical Production

This facilitates support for businesses committed to ethical production, fair worker compensation, and adherence to ethical labor conditions. By encouraging these practices, you contribute to creating a fair and responsible economy.
In conclusion, supporting local businesses is a wise choice in many aspects. Not only does it boost the local economy, but it also provides you with higher-quality products and services, reduces your environmental impact, and promotes ethical production. ]]>Discover 5 tips to keep your swimwear radiant year round – From rinsing after each use to gentle hand washing and more, we've got your swimwear care covered!
The first essential step in caring for your bikini is to rinse it with fresh water after each use, even if you've only worn it for sunbathing. Sunscreen and body oils can damage the fabric, especially if it's a light color. This simple habit can help you avoid those unwanted yellow stains.
Avoid tossing your bathing suit into the washing machine or dryer. These machines can be harsh on the fabric, especially the spandex, and can shorten its lifespan. Hand washing is the recommended method. Fill a sink with cold water and use a mild soap to gently clean your swimsuit. If you want to deep clean it, you can use our reusable washing pouch and select the delicate cycle on your washing machine.
Use a mild soap to remove residues of salt, chlorine, sand, and sunscreen. You can let your bathing suit soak for about 10 minutes in soapy water. Be sure to rinse it thoroughly with clear water to prevent any soapy stains.
When it's time to dry your swimsuit, lay it flat in the shade. Avoid hanging it, as this may cause the fabric to lose its shape in the long run. This is the best way to maintain its form.
Extended sun exposure can harm the fabric of your bathing suit, especially if it's a bright color. If you've noticed that your vibrant red bikini has lost its brilliance, the sun is likely the main culprit. To avoid this, consider bringing multiple swimsuits with you on your next vacation so you can alternate and wash them properly between uses. Take a look at our new arrivals to diversify your swimsuit collection.
These are some simple and effective tips to extend the life of your swimsuits. Happy swimming!

Tulum's authentic atmosphere is defined by its bohemian vibe, pristine beaches, and the stunning cenotes abundant in the region. These cenotes, natural sinkholes formed by the collapse of limestone bedrock, are a ubiquitous feature in Tulum. Swimming in their turquoise blue waters is a relaxing experience we particularly cherished. Among them, we highly recommend the Dos Ojos cenote, located 30 minutes north of downtown Tulum. Comprising two interconnected chambers with an underwater passage, it offers an enchanting experience for swimmers, snorkelers, and divers alike. You'll be captivated by the scenery of stalagmites and stalactites, illuminated by rays of light.
To explore Tulum, renting a bike and embarking on an adventure at your own pace is a must. This approach allows you to fully immerse yourself in the environment and uncover hidden gems. Take a leisurely ride along the beach on the bike path or head to the Tulum ruins. The average price for renting a bike in Tulum for 24 hours ranges from 200 to 250 Mexican pesos per bike, approximately 15 to 20 CAD dollars.
The culinary delights of Tulum are abundant, offering a variety of dishes from traditional Mexican cuisine to international flavors. For those looking to venture off the beaten path, La Veleta is the district to explore. Here, you'll discover restaurants that combine exotic cuisine with a chic ambiance. Fresh fish tacos, zesty ceviche, avocado-based dishes, and refreshing margaritas will immerse you in the essence of Tulum's cuisine. If you're keen to savor Mexican specialties, we recommend Maria con H - Cocina Mexicana.
Tulum is also renowned for its unique sensory experiences that invite you to unwind, recharge, and reconnect with yourself. Treat yourself to a meditation session by the sea, immerse yourself in a soothing sound bath, or try a traditional sweat lodge experience in a Mayan tent. Many places in Tulum offer these experiences aimed at soothing your mind and revitalizing your body, all within a magical setting.
Just writing this article makes us eager to return and relive these unforgettable moments. What also struck us is Tulum's commitment to nature preservation. New constructions in Tulum now embrace a strong dedication to environmental conservation, preserving numerous trees in their projects. This approach harmoniously balances tourism development and the safeguarding of the region's natural beauty.
Keep the journey going with us and explore our Tulum Escape Collection.
Neutral colors and textures
Tulum Escape is the result of our passion for mixing colors and textures. For this capsule, we decided to play with three different types of fabrics: matte, printed ribbed and textured shiny. Mixed with neutral colors inspired by sunny memories, vintage patios and the charm of Tulum, these textures take on their full meaning and add an authentic note to each pieces.
Vintage Vibes
For this collection, we also wanted to play with vintage by adding a touch of modernity. Among the swimsuits in the collection, the Yvonne bottom, with its high waist and medium coverage, embodies a timeless retro look. Likewise, the Roberta top and its adjustable buckle reflect the vintage aesthetic. The Raya one-piece swimsuit is a beautiful illustration of this mix with its retro cut and its opening at the stomach which brings a modern touch.
You’ve been wondering how to incorporate these pieces into your wardrobe? Be inspired by the spirit of Tulum Escape by pairing these swimsuits with your favorite items from our previous collections. The neutral color palette of this capsule offers many possibilities for combinations! So, give free rein to your creativity and create looks that suit you.

1. Equip yourself with the right gear
To succeed in swimming, it's essential to choose the right gear. Jully highly recommends a comfortable, well-fitting one-piece swimsuit to prevent water from getting inside. She also advises opting for fixed straps to avoid the inconvenience of dangling cords. Her personal favorite is the Zara one-piece in Scotland from our Just Swim collection!
Besides your swimsuit, a water bottle is an absolute must. Swimming demands sustained cardiovascular effort, hence the importance of staying well-hydrated. And don't forget flip-flops, essential for avoiding unpleasant wet feet after your session. Consider waterproof pouches too for storing your wet swimsuit and towel, a clever way to avoid post-pool hassles!
2. Prioritize technique over speed
Contrary to popular belief, swimming isn't about covering the greatest distance in the shortest time. According to Jully, it's crucial to take the time to master your movements. Swimming becomes an incredibly beneficial sport for the body when techniques are correctly applied. By mastering your movements, you'll discover a whole new dimension to swimming. Not only will you be more efficient in the water, but you'll also feel a beautiful harmony between your body and the aquatic element.
3. Progress at your own pace and be patient
The key to success in swimming lies in gradual progress. Each session presents an opportunity to improve your technique and build your endurance. Don't be discouraged if you find yourself quickly out of breath. The less frequent breathing might be disconcerting at first, but with practice, you'll gain confidence. The essential thing is to persevere and savor every moment in the water.
Swimming offers physical and mental benefits. So, equip yourself wisely, focus on technique, and let yourself be carried away by the rewards of this comprehensive sport!
See you at the pool?

Tip #1: Master the basics with surf lessons
Marie-Christine reminds us that learning to surf involves much more than simply standing on a board. This is the reaosn why she recommend to start with surf lessons that encompass both practical and theoretical aspects. Surfing is a technical discipline practiced in an ever-changing environment, which is why understanding the ocean and safety rules is fundamental. By investing in quality lessons, you'll establish a strong foundation, allowing you to catch more waves and avoid risks to yourself and others. Numerous surf schools are available at popular spots, and surf retreats also offer dedicated coaching for beginners. You might even consider the Salty Souls Experience retreats, which will guide you step by step in your early surfing journey!
Tip #2: Train specifically for surfing
The two primary movements in surfing, paddling and the pop-up, require specific preparation. To tackle the waves, "paddling" demands strength in the arms and shoulders, while the "pop-up" motion necessitates flexibility and upper-body strength. To work on these aspects, Marie-Christine recommends "Primal Movement" workouts that enhance both mobility and strength, both physically and mentally. By preparing in a targeted manner, you'll feel ready to face the challenges of the ocean.
Tip #3: Embrace the learning process
Marie-Christine's final advice: savor every moment of the learning process. Remember that you surf for the joy of it, not just to progress. Surfing is an endless adventure, and reaching a plateau is rare. Each day brings new conditions and new waves to conquer. Embrace this beauty and don't forget the essence of it all: having fun in the ocean, just like when you were a child, without worrying about progress or what others think.
And if you're wondering what swimsuits to wear to surf the waves, Marie-Christine shares her favorites: the Yvonne bottom paired with the Jessie or Louise top. These sets are designed not only for style but also for performance in the water. So, put on your favorite swimsuit and ride the waves with confidence!

Savitri Bastiani was able to stop time with photos that highlight the rays of the sun, the heat and the beauty of the city of Lourdata. Located on the south coast of Kefalonia, this village and its attractions are a source of inspiration for the new colors and new prints of the SP23 collection.
We instantly fell in love with the Secret Roc villa, which is a luxury house perched on top of a mountain. Bordered by the sea, the landscape it offers is breathtaking. The swimming pool, the architecture and the Greek accents made this place a perfect location for our photoshoot.
Danai Vartholomatou was the ideal model to highlight the swimsuits of the new collection. Originally from Greece, she wants to promote health and well-being in her community. It is possible to follow her on social networks or on her online platform which offers a variety of training programs.
Among the favorite elements of this getaway are undeniably the villa, the food and the Greek landscapes.

Aboard a sailboat, they took off in Kelafonia in Greece. In the lifestyle photos of Postcard from Greece, we can appreciate the colors and the marina of Agia Effimia, a traditional fishing village.
The Vathos Sailing experience allowed the girls to appreciate the beauty of the island in its entirety - and to take pictures of the picturesque landscape. Founded by two Canadians, Vathos Sailing offers one-day sailing excursions, to admire the coasts of Kefalonia & Ithaca from the water. For more info or to live a unique adventure, you can visit their website here.
The models of this collection are Yanou Simard and Marie-Pier Bastien. Through the photos, we get to discover their complicity and their spontaneity. Other elements of their personalities, such as their passion for paddleboarding, were put forward. We want to thank our friends at Taïga Board who provided the paddle boards. It's a local company (which we love) that sells sports equipment: discover them here.
Among the highlights of the trip raised by Julie are undoubtedly the boat, the scenery, the perfect temperature, and the Greek food.
We would like to thank all those who have directly or indirectly made this incredible collection possible!
]]>For me, this way of life focuses on experiences overseas and on being in the present moment. In the last month, I’ve visited five countries: Ireland, England, France, Germany and now The Netherlands.
What I’ve learned is that even if working abroad is often idealized, it comes with a fair share of obstacles! It’s not always as glamorous as it looks on pictures and on the media. In my opinion, the most important thing to sustain this style of living is balance. Therefore, thought I’d share my best tips so far on working abroad and on adjusting to this lifestyle.
Be passionate about your work
What encouraged me to take a leap of faith and work remotely is that I love my job. Most of my work can be done online. Yet, it takes a lot of discipline and focus to sustain this lifestyle. If you don’t love what you do, you’ll have a harder time resisting going to the beach or socializing instead of working.
Organization is key
You need to have a calendar to manage your itinerary, your flights, your accommodations, and your workdays. If you want to have a good time, you need to have a system that works and that is stress-free. These strategies will help you divide your time between traveling and working.
Check the Wi-Fi
If you work remotely, I assume most of your work is done online. Therefore, you need to make sure you always have access to a fast and accessible wi-fi. Between countries, the internet situation can vary a lot. Beforehand, always make sure you’ve done enough research and that you have the resources you need. If your accommodation doesn’t offer a fast connection, I encourage you to look at co-working spaces!
Commit to daily routines
When you are traveling, you can often get caught up in the adventures and the spontaneity. However, when you are traveling long-term it’s important to think about your mental and your physical health. An example of this would be having a morning routine – working out, meditating, and answering work emails.
Finally, the most important step is enjoying yourself and getting out of your comfort zone! Working abroad is an incredible experience and will offer you possibilities you wouldn’t have thought of before, you just have to be open to them.
See you around the world!

I know what you’re thinking: « it’s not that easy! » and I’m not here to convince you that it is. Because, well, traveling can be hard, it can make you feel uncomfortable, and it can make you apprehensive. But I think that not going on the trip you’ve been contemplating, not taking risks, and not going out of your comfort zone is also hard. In the end, you just have to trust yourself enough to try new things.
Since it’s so easy to find reasons to say no, I’ve made a list of reasons why this time you should say yes. So, here are my five best reasons to travel during fall.
1. The weather is great
It’s not too cold, it’s not too warm – it’s just right. You don’t have to worry about being too hot while you’re hiking in the sun or when you’re reading on the beach, you can enjoy yourself to the fullest. In most travel destinations, you can pack light and only bring a few layers.
2. It’s peaceful
What I’ve learned over the years is that whenever you want to be somewhere, there’s probably a bunch of people that want to be there too. For this reason, travelling during the fall season is ideal – you avoid the big crowds and the busy streets. This way, it’s easier to travel spontaneously: no reservations, no line-ups.
3. It’s cheap
This is probably the best reason why you should travel during the fall. In most cities, the rates are better, and the flights are budget friendly. You’re avoiding the months of peak demand.
4. The festivals are abundant
Around the world, you’ll find unique and fun celebrations during the fall season! Some of these include Oktoberfest, Día de los Muertos, Harvest or even wine festivals. Wherever you’ll be traveling, I’m sure you’ll have lots to choose from.
5. The seasonal food is tasty
When you travel during fall, you have access to an authentic culinary experience! The large selection of seasonal foods allows you to discover new flavors while enjoying the scenery.
In short, travelling is a great way to get out of your routine and see the world through a new lens. So, book that flight!
See you somewhere around the world!

At June Swimwear, it has always been important, during lifestyle photoshoots, to highlight the local personalities behind the chosen travel destinations. This initiative stems from a desire to promote culture from elsewhere and to learn more about the world.
For the Ode to Wilderness collection in El Salvador, we chose to work with Ligia Jimenez. Originally from Central America, she shares her unique way of life, and she offers authentic content on social networks. From the landscapes to the adventures that she publishes online, she always seems to find a way to spark passion and curiosity in all of us.
Ligia is a multidisciplinary artist – she is an art director, a graphic designer, a DJ, a yoga teacher, and she practices soundhealing. Her background and multiple interests seem to inspire her community to adopt healthy lifestyle habits. We asked her a few questions about her versatile skills, her ambitions, and her inspirations.
Tell us a little bit about you!
I’m a scorpio sun and moon living in the tropics. Fueled by music and inspired by the ocean, Yoga junkie and soundhealer by day, DJ by night.
Art director, graphic designer, DJ, soudhealing, yoga instructor... What is the best thing about what you do?
All of these are an expression and inspiration through art, and you can mix them together to create a cool experience! Design is my connection to the visual arts, sound healing to the art of harmonizing the energetic body, Yoga is an art of awakening consciousness through the physical body and DJing to me is union of a tribe through the art of dance.
How is living in El Salvador?
Perfect weather, short distances, waves and nature everywhere, people are as smiley as you can get...here you can watch the sunrise in a volcano, swim in a lake and watch sunset by the ocean all in one day. Basically paradise!
What is your best travel memory?
15 days Sailing from Puerto Rico to the Bahamas and stopping in magic islands and secret spots to dive and explore all the way.
What's your next project / something you would like to try?
I am currently exploring ways of using my passions and find channels to share
them with others and learn from what others have to share. Another personal project for me right now is surfing as it brings a lot of motivation to my life in many areas.
Which June bikini is your favorite?
Jade Bikini Top in Seabed paired with Yvonne Bikini Bottom in Tobacco. Perfect fit and stays on all surf session long!

A trip to the spa
Who says long weekend, says time to recharge your batteries! Take a break and go to one of the many spas accessible across Quebec. This escape will certainly allow you to limit distractions and enjoy the present moment. Above all, it is an activity that is ideal to enjoy the fall colors, without spending too much energy.
A getaway to Maine
For the most audacious, this weekend is the perfect opportunity to organize a roadtrip on the East Coast with friends. Fall is the prime season for surfing in Maine, because of the good waves. All you have left to do is prepare your surf cover, your surf-approved June swimsuit, and your wetsuit.
Try Kitesurfing
The long weekend is an opportunity to get out of your comfort zone and test your limits! Try to surpass yourself by learning to kitesurf. In Quebec, several sites offer experiences for beginners – the Magdalen Islands is one of the most popular destinations. The October winds are good and reliable, which makes it a great month to try and master this sport.
A sea kayaking excursion in Gaspésie
For some, long weekend rhymes with adventure: that's why we thought of a unique and guided sea kayaking expedition! Whether you are a beginner or an expert, this activity allows you to enjoy the wildlife and intimate panoramas. This Gaspésie adventure will certainly make you experience emotions in an incomparable way.
Have a nice weekend!

Inspired by the ocean and the sun, Pauline Mathiot uses her creativity to capture magical moments through her lens. Her work allows her to share her vision of the world and to convey emotions. We had the chance to ask her a few questions about her artistic approach and her inspirations:
Where does your passion for photography come from?
I started to like photography very early on, without even really realizing it. I was 14 years old; I took pictures of everything around me with a very small device, and it seemed normal to me. I never said to myself that “I loved it”. I never really said to myself either that I was going to become a photographer. At 24, I started to travel. I kept taking pictures of everything. I just wanted to capture the memories.
Without realizing it, I trained, I perfected myself, I directed my eye. My palette of colors has been defined over the years. I liked poetry, I wanted to reproduce the pastels of Wes Anderson, the nostalgia of the hearts. I like what the photo implies. The patience, the sensitivity to detail, infinite renewal, the search for light, room for the unexpected, the blur, the real. I like to identify a face, the spark of a moment.
It is believed sometimes that being behind a camera prevents us from being fully present. I believe it's quite the opposite. Taking a photo implies that the moment is already magnificent in our eyes. We live it, we feel it and we give it eternal colors.
What are your sources of inspiration?
I am inspired by the life around me. I am lucky to be able to travel, inspiration is not hard to find. Elsewhere, our senses are multiplied. We feel everything stronger; we are constantly on the alert. We notice new smells, colors that have no name and that tint the sky. I also find inspiration in books, core of my imagination; in film scenography and in the atmosphere of situations of which I am a spectator. Also, and especially in the details that are around me. A seashell, a book cover whose title inspires me, the last rays on a calm ocean, a fabric that catches the light, an atypical face crossed in the street, a golden jewel, I come across the information and it becomes the beginning of my next photo.
What are your favorite subjects to photograph?
My universe varies and evolves over the years. I imagine it grows with me. I started with pictures of trips, I loved the desert expanses of Chile, the power of the waves of the Pacific or the silence of Patagonia. I liked to climb volcanoes and capture the first golden glow. Then I started liking faces. They tell so much. I then realized that I wanted to photograph stories and to share them. My photographs began to work in series. I invented a beginning and an end to each of them. They looked like the ocean, silhouettes, moving bodies. sometimes blurry, sometimes too sharp. Always tinted with salt water.
What are you passionate about other than photography?
Surfing, without any surprises :). Surfing and photography are both foundations in my life. Cinema too. I love going alone, it's my time to disconnect. I can talk about a movie in more time than it lasted. I like it so much. And then I would say the Second World War. It kind of comes out of nowhere; I admit it, but this part of the story fascinates me. I like all the films and books that relate to this event. We will never have covered everything that happened. There are so many things to learn, and even more to try to understand.
What is your favorite travel destination?
The one I haven't done yet I believe. I fell in love with El Salvador 3 years ago, it's also where I put my suitcases, but I feel that little by little I want something else. The last years have been lulled by the turquoise water, the infinite waves, the palm trees, and the rose-tinted sky. It made me infinitely happy. But I think I'm now searching of beaten earth from Africa and the Orient, warm complexions, mountains of sand, arid deserts, ocher and gold. Another land of discovery, a new setting on which to lay my eye on.
What is your June bikini that follows you in all your adventures?
The Yvonne bottom & Leon Licorice top without a doubt! I love them, really, everything is perfect, from the fabric to the shape, including it’s support to go surfing. It is sporty while remaining elegant.

The first time I heard about the Salty Souls, I was watching Surf INC. by Ouisurf. Since then, I’ve always been inspired by Erika and Marie-Christine, who took a leap of faith and started their own businesses abroad.
The Salty Souls & The Salty Club
Since its debut, the Salty Souls has grown exponentially and is now known and admired throughout the world. It offers all-inclusive surf, yoga, and empowerment trips internationally.
Similarly, the Salty Club focuses on at-home training, yoga, nutrition, and empowerment to help « sharpen the body, the mind and the soul from anywhere in the world, 365 days a year. »
Both brands want to provide a holistic approach on health and wellness. The various content they offer is accessible, resourceful and knowledge.
Last year, I participed in their 20/20 challenge which I found challenging yet rewarding. After every workout, I thought to myself – I can do hard things.
Erika Drolet
Erika is the co-founder of the Salty Souls as well as the founding trainer & yogi for the Salty Club. Originally from Quebec, she decided to follow her passion and move to El Salvador. She has a badass entrepreneurial mindset and is always undertaking new projects.
Personally, I admire her content on social media for its authenticity and its vulnerability. On her Instagram you’ll find fitness, surf, yoga and inspirational content. Amongst other things, she encourages everyone to follow their instincts, live their best lives and do rad things. Her feel good content motivates women to be the best version of themselves, to never doubt about their abilities and to take up space.
Marie-Christine Amyot
Marie-Christine is the co-founder and surf-coach of the Salty Souls & the Salty Club. She is also from Quebec but has always been driven by the desire to live near the ocean. Now, she works and surfs year-round throughout South America.
« My intention is to create a nice space where I will be able to share with you my passion for travelling, discovering new cultures, interacting with humans, but above all, my ultimate love for surfing! »
She just recently had a baby which motivated her and her team to create an online program called Salty Mama which focuses on the journey into motherhood. It offers diverse content ranging from training to nutritious recipes! I encourage you to check out the Salty Mama program.
To finish this entry, we’ve had the chance to ask a few questions to the Salty Souls:
Where did the idea to create Salty Souls come from?
The idea came during a trip to Ecuador when we were working on a video for June Swimwear ;). We were thinking how difficult it is, in addition to being intimidating, to learn how to surf, especially as a girl! So, we thought it would be cool to create the kind of trip we would have dreamed of going on when we started surfing, to learn the right way, to give us confidence in the ocean and to avoid making the thousand and one mistakes that we ourselves have made.
Why El Salvador and Ecuador?
Because we are in love with these 2 countries ;) Ecuador because Marie-Christine was already spending a lot of time there (her boyfriend is Ecuadorian) and El Salvador because we had both been there before and we loved it the vibe. We wanted to make you discover these little corners of paradise.
What is your best surfing memory?
Hard to say, there are so many! But in 2020, we did a girls surf trip to Las Flores in El Salvador (a beach where there's nothing else to do but surf ;)) We slept in little cabins on the beach, we ate rice cakes with plenty of peanut butter (we didn't have a kitchen), we surfed until our arms couldn't paddle anymore... we had a lot of fun :)
Do you have any advice for a girl who would like to start surfing?
Come on a Salty Souls retreat ;) haha! But no joke, it's important to know basic theory and to practice to avoid dangerous situations or get hurt. It also allows you to learn faster. So, take lessons, be patient, enjoy the learning process because learning to surf is a lifetime process!
What’s your favourite June bikini to surf?
The Yvonne bottom and the Louise top!
So, see you at the next retreat?
Visit the Salty Souls Experience website.
Here’s a few things I’ve learned as a beginner that might help you get out there and moving.
1. Invest in good equipment
The first investment I made to kick-start this challenge was a comfortable swimsuit. I love my Nova One-Piece because it doesn’t slow me down during my training – it minimizes drag and water resistance. Some swimmers also wear a wetsuit, this is especially relevant if you work out during the colder seasons of the year.
My second purchase was tinted googles, which makes it easier to see in the water.
Additionally, you want to get yourself a swim buoys because of its dual function! You’ll be more visible in the water, and you can always use it to take a break if you need to.
2. Get started
Now, it’s time to go out there and have fun! Make sure you drink lots of water before-hand, so you stay hydrated during your swim. Look at the forecast – you want to understand the currents, the wave patterns, the wind direction and know that they can change during your workout.
When you get there, slowly acclimate your body to the water, particularly if it’s cold. Splash some water on you, dive in and let yourself float for a moment. In the water, always stay calm and collected.
3. Make sure you feel comfortable in the water
There are a few ways to ensure your safety while you’re swimming. First off, try to follow and stay close to the shore – in case of an emergency, you’ll be closer to the land. Pick a visible landmark and swim towards that (in a straight line ideally).
Moreover, know and respect your limits. If you’re a beginner, don’t try to go too deep in the water right away. You want to make sure you’re physically capable of doing so before tiring yourself out.
Lastly, go out there as much as you can and find friends to swim with, it’ll make it much enjoyable!
4. Begin to increase your endurance
When you start feeling good about open water swimming and want to set new objectives, here’s my advice! You can increase your performance by practicing in the pool, there you can push your limits a bit more and start to notice your strengths and weaknesses.
Repetition, repetition, repetition. Just keep going out there as much as possible and eventually you’ll start to get better. Apart from this, do a quick warm-up on land before diving in and try to practice proper breathing daily.
Undoubtedly, the most important step is having a good time and enjoying yourself!
See you in the water!

]]>Here are 5 simple tips to care for your surfboard so it can enjoy a long and fulfilled life.
1. Avoid exposing your board to direct sunlight and extreme heat
High temperatures can cause the protective skin of the board - the fiberglass and resin outer layer - to weaken and crack, and even create bumps on the surface of the board.
Overexposure to the sun can also damage the board by making it lose its color and turning it yellowish.
Pro tips:
- Avoid leaving your board in the car or on the roof.
- Keep your board well shaded with a board bag or towels while at the beach.
2. Rinse your surfboard with fresh water
Rinsing your surfboard with fresh water after each session helps to remove salt and sand and contributes to its durability. In fact, salt is corrosive and can lead the board to corrode and degrade. It also allows your board to keep its "new" look over time.
3. Change your wax once in a while
Make it a habit to remove old wax from your board to easily spot any cracks and other dents that may be hiding underneath. This also contributes to performance!
4. Invest in a board bag
Store your surfboard in a bag after your sessions in the waves to prevent bumps and scratches. You can also use a boardsock to pack your board in a box or travel bag for extra peace of mind!
5. Store your board the right way
Protect your board from accidents and damage by storing it in a safe place well ventilated and away from direct sun rays. It's possible to build or buy a rack to store it!
Here you go! Easy-breezy. Make these 5 simple tips an habit and you'll greatly extend the lifespan of your board!
See you in the water!

This is the daily routine of our Lifestyle Ambassador Catherine, who has been living in Egypt for almost 3 years. She's a scuba instructor and founder of Freediving Tribe, a diving school located in the heart of Dahab, in the Sinai Peninsula of Egypt. Dive into Catherine's inspiring world!
What made you decide to leave Quebec and move to Egypt?
It all started with a dream. I had everything that society would consider successful. I had a stable relationship, a permanent job, great friends and a wonderful family. Everything to be happy. For years, I used to do scuba diving trips with my boyfriend at the time. In 2017, we decided to explore the world on our own, by mutual agreement. In February 2018, I packed up my bags and flew off on a new adventure. My trip was only supposed to last a few weeks, maybe even 3 months… Here I am, 3 beautiful years have passed! Nothing was planned and I left everything behind to pursue the dream I was cherishing.
Why Egypt?
I love Egypt for many reasons. Obviously, there is the beauty of the Red Sea. The water quality is unmatched by anything I’ve seen before. The marine life is rich and there are countless places to dive. Sinai’s culture is completely different from the rest of Egypt. It’s a beautiful place where the mountains blend with the sea and the Bedouins offer a unique way to live. The simplicity of life is another reason that charms tourists at first sight.
Why did you decide to locate your diving school in Dahab?
The decision came naturally to me. Nothing was planned. I took the freediving instructor course in Dahab 2 years ago. One thing led to another, I had good success and a lot of references, which encouraged me to buy all the necessary equipment to open a small business. Then, I found a place and here we go! I love Dahab because I can walk to everything. It’s a small, safe and charming place. People from all over Egypt come to visit me.
Dahad, mainly for the easy access to the water from the shore. Actually, the whole Red Sea! There is also the famous Blue Hole. Personally, I prefer Sharm El Sheik for the safe organization and the possibility to dive from a platform. Snorkeling is really concentrated in the Sinai Peninsula, as there is little current and it's of unlimited depth. It is accessible all year round and close to the airport. In the south of Egypt, we find Hurghada, Marsa Alam and Hamata, which are known for Sea Safaris and scuba diving.
How would you explain your experience when you are underwater? How do you feel?
Freediving allows you to reflect on yourself. I also think that water is the mirror of your soul. When I get into the water, whether it’s for fun or to teach, it’s a feeling of freedom that overwhelms me. I forget everything about the outside world. I feel good, relaxed and completely connected to the water around me.
What is the best swimsuit to wear under your wetsuit for freediving? Tell us about your experience with your June Swimwear!
I love the brand! June offers very comfortable swimsuits and I like the fact that you don’t feel the seams, which is nice when you have a suit pressing against your skin. It’s also important to me that it is made at home (in Quebec) and from recycled materials. I observe a sad reality where every day, I take the time to collect about 2 to 10 kilos of plastic in the water. Pollution from consumption of plastic is very present. Fortunately, there are companies like June that encourage local production and keep an ecological conscience.
GO! If I can do it, anyone can do it! I started out with very little savings (I only thought I would be in Egypt for a few weeks). I didn’t speak a word in English and I left everything to pursue a crazy dream. I found a passion that is close to my heart. If at the end of the day, you are not doing what makes you happy, change for the better. You owe it to yourself. Nothing ventured, nothing gained!
