Interview with Julie, founder of June Swimwear
Interviewer: Hi Julie, we're thrilled to have you with us today. To start off, could you tell us about the origins of June Swimwear and what inspired you to create this brand?
Julie: Hey! I'm glad to be here. June Swimwear was born out of my passion for the ocean and surfing, as well as my desire to create swimsuits that combine style and functionality. My trip to Australia was a major source of inspiration, and that's where I found the determination to launch my own brand.Interviewer: Why did you choose the name "June Swimwear"? What's the story behind that choice?
Julie: Well, I was looking for a company name, and I was in a yoga class where the teacher's name was June. I thought it sounded nice and elegant, so I thought it would be perfect for my brand. Fun fact, I registered the brand in June 2009.
Interviewer: In three words, how would you describe the identity of your brand?
Julie: Escape: Travel to open up to external realities, to what's happening elsewhere in the world.
- Freedom: Enjoy life because life is short and we shouldn't just work.
- Simplicity: Happiness is found in life's simple pleasures.
Interviewer: Let's talk about June Swimwear's iconic bootykini. How did it come about?
Julie: The iconic bootykini of June Swimwear was born from my desire to push the boundaries of swimsuit design while staying true to the essence of my brand. Inspired by sunny beaches and an active lifestyle, I created this unique style for confident and bold women. The idea came about in 2013 when two close friends ordered sexy bottoms for their adventures at Cape Hatteras. With their support and that of the OuiSurf team, I launched the first bootykini, and the rest is history. Today, I'm proud to see how this iconic piece has found its place on Quebec beaches and beyond, embodying the spirit of June Swimwear.
Interviewer: Is there a collection that has particularly stood out to you among all those created over the years?
Julie: There are several collections that have stood out to me, whether it's because of the location where we did the photoshoot or the people who inspired me for the collection styles. But I would say that the Spring 2024 collection is in my top 5; it's vibrant, and the location where we took the photos is a real hidden gem.
Interviewer: If you had to give three pieces of advice to entrepreneurs looking to venture into the fashion industry, what would they be?
Julie: Surround yourself with competent and inspiring people to support you on your journey. Dare to stand out by offering something unique and innovative compared to what's already being done in Quebec. Persevere and move forward despite the obstacles and rejections you may encounter along the way.
Interviewer: Without revealing all the details, what are your upcoming projects with June Swimwear?
Julie: We're exploring opportunities for expansion across the rest of Canada, and we're considering eventually opening a physical store.
Interviewer: Thank you so much, Julie, for this fascinating interview. We look forward to seeing what the future holds for June Swimwear!
Julie: It was a pleasure, thank you. Stay connected to discover our new collections and upcoming adventures. See you soon!
