Short on time but craving a quick surf trip this fall? Maine is the perfect destination, just a five-hour drive from Montreal—ideal for a spontaneous road trip. The East Coast enjoys more consistent waves in autumn thanks to hurricane season and shifting weather patterns. Maine boasts numerous surf spots suitable for all skill levels, along with breathtaking scenery that transforms with the changing foliage. Keep an eye out for swells that could spark a memorable weekend getaway. Your soul will thank you for it! And don’t forget to indulge in a delicious lobster roll while you’re there.
Nova Scotia
Nova Scotia is stunning in the fall and, like Maine, benefits from consistent swells during this season. While it’s a bit farther from Montreal, affordable flights are available if you're short on time but eager to make the most of your trip. Tofino
The stunning West Coast of Canada—wild, raw, and beautiful. Nothing beats the breathtaking backdrop of Tofino while you surf. With consistent, picturesque waves for all skill levels, you’ll have a magical experience here. Autumn is particularly special, as the crowds have thinned out and the weather remains mild, offering ideal conditions for both surfing and exploring the rugged coastline. After your surf session, satisfy your hunger with a taco from Tacofino; it’s simply delicious!
San Sebastián
This beautiful surf town in Spain is a must-visit, especially in the fall when it’s quieter than in the summer. Fewer crowds mean you can truly enjoy everything it has to offer. Imagine strolling through the charming streets with your surfboard in hand—it's a surreal and magical experience. Be sure to savor the amazing local cuisine; embark on a food crawl to sample delicious pintxos, the local version of tapas.
Hossegor
This laid-back surf town is a must-visit, especially in the fall. With summer crowds dissipated, you can fully enjoy the waves, which are more consistent and better during this time. The local culture is vibrant, so take a moment to relax with a glass of wine and indulge in some moules frites while you’re there.
Morocco
The magical land of Morocco, my personal favorite! Here, you can immerse yourself in the vibrant local culture and stunning landscapes. Picture camels roaming the beach and cats lounging in the streets, all set against a backdrop of incredible surf spots along the coast. If you can, rent a car to fully explore the wonders that this coastline has to offer.
